How to Choose the Right Neighbourhood When Moving Interstate
There's a lot to research when you're moving interstate. Consider these tips by Best Rated Transport when choosing your next suburb.
One of the biggest questions you will ask yourself is which suburb do we want to move to? Close to the CBD? Close to a specific school? Close to the office? Close to certain attractions?
It can also be a bit trickier than moving locally as you can't really drive to a new suburb every weekend and see what it's like. You're most likely a several hours' drive away from your next home and thus it all comes down to research.
Below are 5 tips to help you choose the right neighbourhood when moving interstate.
1. Check amenties and services
Check for grocery stores, schools, healthcare facilities, parks, recreational centers, restaurants, and other essential services nearby. Even if you have a car, it's always nice to live within a short walk from at least a corner store.
If you have kids, the school is going to be an important factor when choosing a neighbourhood. Be sure to research schools and when you do book a trip to your new destination to look at houses, schedule a walk-through with schools too.
2. Local attractions that may drive you crazy
Consider what local attractions are around your new home that could be problematic. For example, if you're close to a beach or on a low-lying area, you could be in a flood zone. If you're close to an airport, you may hear airplanes flying in and out at all hours of the night. If you're close to a pound or RSPCA, then you might be listening to barking dogs all night.
3. Talk to locals
Even if you don't live locally, you can seek advice on your new city through Facebook. Almost every town or city will have several Closed Groups or Public Groups for people to ask advice, share their thoughts on certain schools and even suburbs. Of course, you'll find a lot of contradicting answers through these groups but it doesn't hurt to ask.
4. Use a Buyer's Agent
Buyer's Agents know the inside scoop on an area and can often tell you a little more about the suburbs than what you can find online. They can also let you know about future development plans.
5. Look into Transportation
How will you be getting from work to home, from the city to home, from the school to home, from the gym to home? You may have your own car or you may want to rely on public transport which can be cheaper and quicker in many instances. Living close to a train line or bus stop may benefit you.
